Williamette Legacy Project Take a walk through history and into the future on this tour of the "Willamette Legacy Project" and Willamette Falls locks. The Willamette Legacy Project is a multi-agency project to re-envision access to Willamette Falls and connect the falls and surrounding landscape to Oregon City proper. A total site restoration is planned on the Oregon City side of the Willamette River, including a "Riverwalk" that will connect visitors to the river below. The area - once a fishing mecca and meeting place for multiple Pacific Northwest tribes and later an industrial hub with flour, wool, and paper mills - became dilapidated after industry departed, and access for fishing and recreation was left difficult. This trip will include a tour of the Willamette Falls redevelopment site and the Willamette Falls Locks and museum. Attendees will hear from local sponsors and government agencies about the challenges and opportunities in availing the Falls to more visitors, while also respecting the historic importance of tribal fishing grounds, prior and continuing industrial development, and navigation via the 1870s era locks. Orders will be taken for pay-as-you go box lunches.

The Willamette Legacy Project tour will be led by Willamette Falls Legacy Project Partners. Tour participants should dress in warm clothes, bring rain gear, and wear sturdy closed toed shoes (no heels or sandals). There are no entry fees, but everyone on the tour must fill out a waiver of liability form, which will be emailed to all registrants in advance; no one can take the tour wo/a signed form.

The tour will leave Red Lion Inn at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday morning, returning at 3:45 PM.
