IMPORTANT NOTE: The AWRA headquarters office is closed December 22, 2007 - January 1, 2008 for the holiday. Staff will be checking email periodically during this time. Login questions will receive a priority response. Enjoy your holidays!
New member login information was e-mailed or mailed to all AWRA members in late October (along with your 2008 AWRA Membership Renewal). If you haven't received it, or are having trouble accessing the members-only content, please let me know.
If you have already renewed -- Thank You! Your prompt renewal keeps your member benefits going without interruption and saves AWRA money, time, and paper!
If you haven't yet renewed -- Your 2008 Membership Renewal Notice was e-mailed (with your new login information) in October and mailed to you this month. You can renew easily and efficiently by logging into the members-only area using your new login. Please let me know if you missed the notification, if you need assistance logging in, or if you need an invoice sent to you for your 2008 dues.
Current Corporate and Institutional members recently received notification of this change to the membership categories resulting from the bylaws change this summer. Water Resources Information
These annual awards from The Infrastructure Security Partnership -- one for the public sector, one fro the private sector -- recognizes the exceptional leadership of individuals and/or organiztions who have made significant and lasting contributions to further critical infrastructure resilience.
The Geographical Sciences Committee of the National Academy of Sciences second annual Gilbert F. White Lecture in the Geographical Sciences will be given by Gerald Galloway of University of Maryland and AWRA's current President. He will speak on 'Managing American Water Resources: Recognizing the Realities of Geography.' The aim of the Gilbert F. White lecture series-developed with his blessing-is to focus on connections between the geographical sciences and society. It will both honor Dr. White and also use his example as an inspiration for geographers to share their work on the connections between science and society. RSVP by February 13, 2008.
The Center for Environmental Policy at the University of Florida has received an NSF-IGERT grant and is offering PhD Fellowships. Our IGERT program in Adaptive Management focuses on research and training experiences for doctoral students that integrate the physical, biological, chemical, and social sciences to address the chosen research theme, Wise Use of Water, Wetlands, and Watersheds. The National Water Research Institute has released a downloadable white paper on "Water 2010: A "Near Sighted" Program of Water Resource Management Improvements for the Western United States," by Dr. William Blomquist of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianpolis. The NWRI White Paper address the need for short-term, less costly actions that can be implemented to improve current water supplies and ensure adequate resources for the future.
