Keeping You Connected
November 2007 |
Dear Terry,
AWRA's recently concluded Annual Water Resources Conference was a great success. More than 500 people came together for Community, Conversation, Connections in Albuquerque! As much as we have come to depend on the "virtual" sharing of information in blogs, RSS feeds, online publications, and podcasts, there is still nothing that beats the face-to-face opportunities to present cutting-edge science, share successful case studies, meet folks who face the same challenges you face, learn a lot, and have fun than to attend an AWRA conference. So here's some information on what we're working on for 2008.
The Program Committee for our upcoming GIS in Water Resources V Conference is meeting TODAY to put together another outstanding AWRA Spring Specialty Conference from the 222 abstracts submitted. The Riparian Ecosystems & Buffers Conferennce "Call for Abstracts" is well underway, and we expect this AWRA Summer Specialty Conference will be an extraordinary success as well. More information about both conferences is available below.
As we race toward the end of 2007, I hope you find lots of useful information in this issue of Connections.

"Water Stories"
"Water Stories," a report by the Wilson Center's Navigating Peace Initiative, examines alternatives to large-scale infrastructure projects in the water and sanitation sectors. Funded by a grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the study explores how lessons learned from small-scale projects can be effectively communicated and replicated worldwide. The US EPA has created two trading maps: the first map shows trading programs that have traded at least once, as well as state level trading programs. The second map shows trading programs that received EPA funding. Each map is clickable - just click on the state in which you are interested and it will take you to more information on that state's trading programs.
