is a practical, solution-oriented magazine
that contains timely articles written for the practitioner. You may know that IMPACT is included with the dues as a member benefit for all AWRA members. You may not know that IMPACT is available by subscription, too. Six issues each year on current and emerging topics of concern in water resources management.
In September 2005, IMPACT focused on the Infrastructure Crisis; it was distributed just days after the failed levee system devastated New Orleans. In September 2006, our focus was on Decision Support for Adapting to Climate Change. Our May 2007 issue focused on Contaminants of Emerging Concern. IMPACT's subscribers are accustomed to reading about issues currently facing them in their work as well as issues that are out on the horizon. Subscribe today!
IMPACT is also the only AWRA publication that allows advertising. Our readers are primarily senior-level water resources managers, governmental personnel, consultants, and the university community who work directly with water management programs. Information about advertising is available here.

Keeping You Connected
September 2007 |
"In the battle between the stream and the stone, the stream always wins -- not through strength, but through persistence." Unknown
It's a busy time at AWRA. The Annual Conference is fast approaching, the Spring & Summer Specialty Conferences both have open calls for abstracts (links & details below), and AWRA membership renewals will be going out soon (AWRA members -- coming soon to your e-mail inbox!).
So, I'll be brief and leave you with another quote:
"If there is magic on this planet, it is contained in water." Loren Eisely, The Immense Journey, 1957
More great quotes and facts about water have been compiled here by the US EPA. If you are seeking validation that your work as a water resources professional is important, read a few of these and you'll feel like a million bucks.
Hope to see you all in Albuquerque, where persistent, magical water is our focus.

Water Resources Information
The US Department of Energy and the British Library, along with other participating countries recently launched this online gateway to science information where you can simultaneously search 19 international science portals.
Click on the link to access videos of the segments covered in this week-long series on water supply. Lots of additional information is posted here as well -- a few slide shows, a water footprint calculator, interactive demonstration of how the earth cycles water, and other stories of interest.
Susan Kaderka, Director, National Wildlife Federation's (NWF) Gulf States Regional Office, and Don Elder, President of River Network, will explore the dimensions of global climate change and frame the ensuing discussions about what water quality managers at the federal, state, and local level, along with the watershed protection community, can do to rise to the challenge. The speakers will discuss major opportunities to save water and energy together, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Watershed practitioners, utilities, community leaders, and agency officials can all benefit from hearing about the profound implications of climate change and what we can all do now to protect our future. To register, visit the link.
Cool, Clear Water Audio and Video Recordings Available
The Commonwealth Club of California recently concluded a month-long water series entitled Cool, Clear Water. Many of the audio and video recordings are available online at the links above.
