WaterDance Film Festival presents "Riverwebs"
After the reception

Join us after the Opening Networking Reception for the WaterDance Film Festival where we will be screening the acclaimed RiverWebs documentary -- a film about life, death, science, and streams. Produced by Fresh Waters Illustrated it takes a close look at an international group of river ecologists who share a story of tragedy, growth, and recovery. Across Eastern and Western cultures, the interwoven lives of these scientists builds a story of interconnectedness, while providing a very personal window through which to view rivers, ecology, and conservation.

Tuesday / July 1

Go Green with AWRA and the Founders Inn - Participate in the Carbon Off-Set Planting Project!
5:30 PM - just prior to the Old Fashioned Barbecue

Tickets for the Barbecue can be purchased on the conference registration form. The Planting Project is free to all conference attendees.

Virginia Beach is a burgeoning tourist area with enticing ocean beaches and access to many recreational opportunities including trails and unique wildlife. However, this Tidewater area is also a non-attainment area for air quality which means there is an excess of air pollutants. In keeping with its strong watershed stewardship ethic, AWRA invites you to join in a unique project to offset a portion of the carbon production of the conference and reduce our environmental footprint on Virginia Beach's air and water.

Approximately 115 trees and shrubs will be planted on the grounds of the Founders Inn to reduce run off and improve air and water quality. These trees will also reduce the carbon footprint of the conference. Participants will have an opportunity put "their" tree in the ground and contribute to offsetting their own carbon emissions. The Founder's Inn was also chosen in part because it is a "green" hotel. While it is not possible to offset our entire carbon foot print at the Inn, we will make a substantial contribution. A unique partnership between The Founders Inn, Pinelands Nursery and AWRA is making this possible.

Join us early for the July 1, Tuesday evening barbeque and grab a shovel. It will only take a few minutes to put "your" tree in the ground. Many hands will make the work go quickly. We will leave Virginia Beach a better place for AWRA having been there.
